If you want to be sure of the answer, these four do that:

1. Start Here: The 10-Minute Scan
Eleven programs most Americans over 65 never apply for, and the scan that tells you in ten minutes which ones are worth your afternoon. One program here alone can stop the $202.90 Medicare premium coming out of your Social Security check.

2. Medicare Savings Programs
Your state can pay your Part B premium — $202.90 a month in 2026, $2,434.80 a year — and nobody mails you a letter about it. The three levels, the income limits, which one your state puts you in, and how to apply.

3. Extra Help, LIS and State Drug Programs
Federal Extra Help caps a generic at $5.10 in 2026, and the income limit is higher than most people think. Then the state pharmaceutical assistance programs that sit on top of your drug plan and pick up what it leaves behind — New Jersey allows more than $54,000 for one person.

4. SNAP, Heating Help and Free Weatherization
After 60 the food-benefit math changes: no gross-income test, and your medical bills count against your income. Then LIHEAP for heating and cooling, and the Department of Energy crew that works on your home for free — average saving $372 a year, every year after.

5. Property-Tax Breaks and Circuit-Breaker Credits
Turning 65 can lower your property tax, but only if you file the form — the assessor will not come looking for you. Then the circuit-breaker credits twenty-nine states and D.C. run, which go by income rather than home value and so help renters too.

6. Wartime Veterans and Survivor Pensions
The VA pension almost nobody claims — no service-connected injury required, surviving spouses included. Add Aid and Attendance and the maximum reaches $34,488 a year for a veteran with a spouse.

7. Unclaimed Money, and SSI After 65
A quiet bank account, an uncashed last paycheck, a utility deposit never refunded — your state may be holding money with your name on it, and checking takes five minutes. Then SSI, where after 65 the disability test disappears and age alone is enough.
If you want it to hold, these do that:

8. All Eleven at a Glance, and When to Act
The whole guide on two pages: every program, its 2026 figure, and who actually runs it — getting that last one wrong is the most common wasted phone call in the book. Plus the timing page: what to do in which month.

9. One Application, Start to Finish
The rest of the guide tells you what each program is. This follows one application the whole way through — the first phone call to the first check — so you know what happens next at every step. Plus the documents folder to gather once and use for all eleven.

10. The Medicare Surcharge (IRMAA)
Everything else here is for people under an income limit. This is the opposite, and it is included because it catches people who just retired: Medicare charges more above a line, using your working income from two years ago. Form SSA-44 is how you fix that.

11. The 50-State Directory, and Sources
Twelve pages: the national numbers that work in every state, then your own state's agencies for each program, and the page every figure in the kit came from with the date it was checked.

12. Printable Application Tracker
The documents every program asks for, gathered once into one folder, with a line showing which program wants which. Then a row per application: filed, confirmed, decided.

13. Open Settlements Insert
The settlements and refund programs accepting claims as this edition went out, with who qualifies and where to file.
Add it up:
You save $340. That is 88% off.

Here is what a few have said ↓
“I had been reading Medicare websites for weeks and still felt confused. The checklist broke everything into an order I could actually follow. I went through it with my husband in about an hour and finally knew what questions we needed to ask before choosing coverage.”
“Before buying this, all of our retirement information was scattered between folders, websites, emails, and notes. We spent a weekend going through the package and now have an actual retirement binder and checklist.”
“Most of this information technically exists online, but it is spread everywhere. Having it organized in plain English, with links and worksheets, saved me hours.”
“There are so many retirement decisions happening at once. This gave me a step-by-step list rather than another 100-page book telling me everything that could possibly go wrong.”

The usual hesitations:
“I am sure I already get everything I qualify for”
That is exactly what the first part is for — it starts from zero and tells you the next single thing to do.
“I tried once and gave up on the website”
Everything is a PDF in large type you can print at home. Nothing to install, nothing to set up.
“I would not qualify, we have savings”
Then start with the one-page scan. It takes ten minutes and tells you whether the rest is worth your afternoon.
“It is probably not worth the paperwork”
Hand it to them. The worksheets are built to be filled in together and the scripts are written to be read out loud.
